STUDENTS taking their GCSEs at Okehampton College have notched up an impressive 97 per cent pass rate.
College head Chris Powell said the students' average point score was 18.3 — slightly up on last year.
'I'm very pleased with the results. They are substantially above the national average,' he said.
'There are a lot of factors that contribute to the success. It is to do with students who are talented and working hard, hard work from the staff and support from the parents.
'We are delighted. There are a lot of young people who are very happy. The majority of students have got into the higher education places they wanted.'
l On the sports scene, Mr Powell is promising more facilities next term.
'The college has been very successful in a number of sports over the last years — especially athletics. I believe that the young benefit enormously from sport and I want to encourage it.'
He said that next term new students will have the opportunity to get involved in rugby, hockey and netball. 'Then I'm going to see if we can develop the cricket and we hope to do that with help from Okehampton Cricket Club.'
