CASTING is under way for The Tavistock Passion — a community play for Easter.

Plans for the play received an enthusiastic reception from would-be actors and singers at a gathering last month. With a good start made in finding cast and choir, further opportunities to join in have now been announced.

Director David Stranks said: ‘We are looking for young men aged 18 to 40 to audition to play Jesus or one of his disciples. It’s a promenade performance on Good Friday 2017, with short dramatic scenes and lively crowd action around the town. There are not many lines to learn.’

An open meeting on Wednesday, November 23 at 7.30pm in Tavistock Parish Centre will provide the opportunity for people of any age to hear about other roles. These include swelling the choir, acting in the crowd, stage management, filming, and costume making.

Producer Steven Martin has been sharing his vision for the performance with key figures in Tavistock and will report the latest plans and news of support. The project is led by St Eustachius, with encouragement from other churches through Tavistock Area Christians Together (TACT). People of any faith or none are welcome to take part.

The Tavistock Passion will be free to watch. Daniel Leonard-Williams, who is in charge of the budget, said: ‘We are seeking sponsorship, grants and individual donations towards the costs. I’m happy to provide more information to anyone able to help with this aspect.’
