2443 OKEHAMPTON Squadron ATC has received £1,000 thanks to the Lodge of Obedience Okehampton.
Every spring and autumn, freemasons from across Devon meet to give support to local organisations who are in need of assistance. Organisations such as schools, scouts, youth centres and locally based charities including hospital services and cancer charities are eligible for support.
The Okehampton branch of the freemasons decided to support the town’s air cadet corps.
The money is raised through the WAKE Fund, a trust conceived by William Alexander Kneel, provincial grandmaster from 1970 to 1984. Since the idea was initiated the fund has grown through the continued generosity of Devonshire Freemasons and wise investments. Today it stands at £1.8-million from which the trustees distribute the income generated, currently over £40,000 each year.
