WEST Devon CAB received a donation from Waitrose recently. thanks to the supermarket's Community Matters scheme.

Mandy Kenyon, WDCAB development officer, said she was especially delighted, as the £246 donation was awarded according to votes received by local shoppers.

She said: 'It is good to know that the public are aware of us and our services.

'As a charity, without support of this kind it would be difficult for us to continue to provide help and advice to the public in West Devon.'

Not many people are aware that their local Citizens Advice Bureau is a charity and they rely on fundraising and grants from local and national organisations.

West Devon CAB has a bureau in Okehampton and Tavistock and recruits and trains all its own volunteer advisers.

Thanks to a grant from the Big Lottery Fund, they also offer a home visiting service for those who may not be able to visit the bureau.

l On Saturday, November 26 Volunteers from West Devon CAB will be holding a street collection in both Okehampton and Tavistock in the hope of raising more much needed funds.

Mandy said: 'Recently we have had to cut our opening hours by three hours each week, due to funding issues, and whilst we appreciate everyone is affected by the current economic climate, every little helps, so we do hope the public will continue to support us.'
