AN East Cornwall post office is one of the first in the UK to benefit from a NatWest scheme to install 300 free-to-use cash machines in the UK's poorest communities. The bank wrote to MPs, credit unions and community leaders to find out the best locations for the machines — more than 400 suggestions were put forward and now Gunnislake Post Office has one of the new machines. Steven Taylor, who runs the post office with his wife Mary, said: 'We are delighted to be one of the first locations to be selected for a free-to-use cash machine. 'This is something that many people and businesses from here and the surrounding area will benefit from, as it's a free facility. Gordon Pell of RBS, of which NatWest is a part, said: 'Lack of free access to cash can badly affect the most vulnerable people in society. Having a free-to-use cash machine close by can make a real difference to the elderly, disabled and those living on a very low income. 'We hope our offer to install free-to-use machines will bring benefits to local residents and subpostmasters' businesses.' The bank is now calling on people to put their location ideas forward for more machines — the website for suggestions is at http://www.rbs.com/freecashmachines">www.rbs.com/freecashmachines
