THE ANNUAL Guy Fawkes Carnival took place in Northlew last Friday and was blessed with fine weather.
The evening, which is organised by the Northlew Silver Band members, began with the judging of the fancy dress classes in a crowded Victory Hall. Entries were up on last year and were varied and imaginative.
Band members and the Rev John Peak led the parade. They were escorted by blazing torches and followed by a large crowd around the village and back into The Square, where the torches were plunged into the large bonfire.
After a bit of a slow start flames shot upwards and the bonfire began to roar. Refreshments were served in the churchroom by members of the band committee and there was also a stall manned by Chris Marston.
Thanks were expressed to the band for keeping the carnival tradition going.
