A LOSS of more than £63,000 was incurred because of the cancellation of last year's Okehampton Show on the day before the event.

But careful stewardship over the years has enabled the show to absorb the loss from reserves and to maintain the high quality of the event and the showground.

These facts were outlined at the annual meeting of Okehampton and District Agricultural Association on February 26 at Meldon Village Hall.

Peter Balsom presented the 2008 accounts, prepared by Simpkins Edwards, to the executive committee for approval.

For the second year running Okehampton Show had to be cancelled due to very wet weather conditions —this time the day before the event but with all the marquees and equipment already on-site.

The show has a good reputation and despite the current economic climate, enquiries about and bookings for trade stand sites are encouraging, the meeting heard.

The current president, Derek Webber, and president-elect, Peter Green, were re-elected for this coming year.

This year's show is on Thursday, August 13 — for details concerning the show contact the show secretary on 01837 861322, via email on [email protected]">[email protected] or see website http://www.okehamptonshow.co.uk">www.okehamptonshow.co.uk
