CARE home doors will be swung open next week as Devon County Council homes join in with national Care Home Open Day.
Tomorrow (Friday), homes across Devon, including Harewood House in Tavistock, will be holding special events and inviting the public to join them. Many of the homes' residents have been involved in the planning and organisation of their events.
Harewood House will be having live music, followed by afternoon tea. The event will run from 1.30pm to 3pm.
The national day has been organised to encourage communities to go in to their local care home and connect with residents and staff to increase public awareness and understanding of what care homes do.
Cllr Stuart Barker, cabinet member responsible for the county council owned homes, said: 'Our care homes care for hundreds of people everyday, and I would urge everyone to go along and take part in this unique opportunity to see inside the homes, meet the interesting residents and committed staff, and participate in the activities planned.'
