ELEVEN off-road parking spaces have been created on a strip of kerbside land in Glanville Drive to ease parking crisis within Tavistock. Westbridge Residents? Association quietly made their own contribution led by their chairwoman Nita Ward, and negotiated a long-term lease of an otherwise unuseable piece of land. Mrs Ward said the association has set an example of self-help which other community groups in Tavistock could follow and invites them to get in touch. The process took the association about a year to set up. They will manage the eleven spaces, licensing them to residents who have put up the £1,500 to create each space. Whenever a space becomes available, such as when a resident of a Westbridge Cottage sells up and moves on, the association will allocate the vacated space. ?Every aspect of this development has been new to us,? said Mrs Ward ?Negotiating with the owners of the land, working with solicitors and the Land Registry, keeping residents informed and on-board, learning about the planning process and dealing with County Highways ? it?s been a rollercoaster.? Mrs Ward paid tribute to others who helped the residents, saying without the guidance of County Cllr Roy Connelly and Alex Wood, former CAB manager of Tavistock, the association would not be here today.
