SOUTH West Fishing For Life is a fishing club, which we set up in April 2008 at Wimbleball Lake, on Exmoor, for people who have suffered or are suffering with breast cancer.
The fly casting techniques have been proved to be beneficial to build up tissue and muscle. The members do not have to have knowledge of fishing as the club has qualified coaches on our days to teach them.
The days are free to the members — they start at 2 pm with tea and finish around 4 pm with refreshments and a lot of chat.
The club has three groups — at Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor, Kennick Lake, Devon and have just started one at Siblyback Lake Country Park near Liskard in Cornwall. The next session at Siblyback is June 26 from 2pm-4pm.
Gillian Payne, the club's secretary, said: 'Our members have found a new interest in their lives and, what is most important, new friends who are or have been through the suffering that they are experiencing. They have all become friends and are helping each other to carry on with life.
'We are self-funding and have obtained small grants to help with the purchase of equipment. SWLakes Trust has given us the venues and facilities on our Sundays, which is fantastic. Volunteers help on the Sundays and make lots of tea!
