A Devon-based trust helped make 2007 a rich year for a range of organisations in the surrounding area and hopes to do the same in 2008. The Balsdon Trust was set up by the executors of Devon farmer William James Balsdon, who died in 2006, leaving the bulk of his estate to 'charity.' Since its inception, the trust has made grants totalling £71, 550 to different organisations including the Germansweek Bellringers, Northlew Victory Hall, Halwill after school sports and Halwill Guides. The trust can help individuals and organisations within ten miles from any of the parish churches of Holsworthy, Halwill and Langtree, where the benefactor spent his life. Any grant requests should be sent to Mr James Rowland, clerk to the trustees, at 8 Croft Road, Holsworthy, EX22 6BW. The trustees expect to have around £20,000 available for distribution during 2008.
