Tavistock U15s 19

Wadebridge Camels U15s 23

A PULSATING game was lost in the final play of the match when the Camels' fast and determined centre outstripped the Tavistock defence to touch down.

Tavistock had been in the lead ever since the fourth minute when Clancy had slipped through to score a try under the posts, after superb forward play, which Ewing converted.

The Camels responded five minutes later with a try on the right wing, but Tavistock were not in a mood to be to be daunted and a fine passage of play involving forwards and backs allowed Thompson to dart through and touch down after 15 minutes, Ewing again converting.

The Camels again came back with a try giving a 14-10 half-time score.

Soon into the second half Camels successfully kicked a penalty, but Tavistock looked confident in holding onto their one-point lead for the next 20 minutes. The dominance of their forwards was rewarded when Friend picked up and charged through for their third try, right in the corner.

The Camels had not given up and with five minutes left their star centre evaded all tackles and scored ten metres from the posts. All depended on the kick which failed to go over.

Tavistock had a one-point lead, with three minutes to go. In the final minute a penalty saw the Camels' centre burst through.

PLAYING in their second game of the season, Tavistock continued their winning streak with a resounding win over a mixed 13/14s side form Liskeard.

Playing against many older and bigger players, Tavistock dominated in the scrum from the start with the front tight five of Matt Smith, Roberts, Lashbrook, Leeson and O'Neill demonstrating their development in technique front sessions on the scrummaging machine.

With quick ball becoming won from loose play the half backs of Lane and Milligan seized the chances through the gaps that started to appear in the defence. Pressure was exerted on the Liskeard line and from a rolling maul, James dived over to score his first try of the day. The second score was a classic backs' move with the ball being moved wide and Milligan taking on all comers to in the race to score in the corner.

The rest of the backs started to move the ball with centres Warlow and Thompson tirelessly stopping their opposite number and setting up breakaway moves that released the pace of Jon Smith, Evans and Smerdon to run at the opposition.

With Thompson crashing over soon after the restart to make the third score, Tavistock played downhill with the wind and forced their opponents into a five-metre scrum.

A fast heel from the pack allowed James to pick up from the number 8 position and drive over for the final try of the day.

This week's match is home to Newton Abbott.
