FIFTEEN students from Callington Community College performed at Theatre Royal Plymouth as part of a national festival.

The group of students from Years 8 to 12 is known as ‘Young and Unique @ Callington Community College’ and on April 18 it performed ‘Blue Electric Wind’ as part of the National Theatre Connections Festival in The Drum at the theatre.

During the festival, seven plays were presented by nine different schools and young theatre groups.

This year, for the 21st anniversary of Connections, the National Theatre worked with 500 youth theatres and schools to stage the plays, picked from the 150 plus it has commissioned for young people since 1995. Connections is one of the UK’s largest celebrations of youth theatre. Plays are commissioned for and about young people, from some of the best contemporary playwrights, and performed by schools and youth theatres all over the UK and Ireland.

The ‘Blue Electric Wind’ was written by Brad Birch — when people at school start forgetting things, Scott wonders if he’s the only one who’s noticed. It seems it’s only him and some of the school misfits who can see what is happening. Is it the weather? Is it a strange virus? They must join forces to try and work out what is causing everyone in town to lose all sense of who they are.

Students who performed were: Poppy Lazenbury and Tate Mitchell, Year 8; Edie Olsson, Charlotte Law and Emily Welch, Year 9; Finn Hilsdon, Holly Kitchen, Penny Metters, Maya KC Cotton, Rosie Petherick-Davies, Charles Bagshaw, Jorgia Pickett-Dyer and Ruby Roberts, Year 10; Harry Tredinnick, Year 12.
