A NORTH Tawton morris dancer may have missed out on May Day dancing this year ? but has appealed for anyone who shares his passion for traditional morris dancing to contact him to look at the possibility of setting up a club in the Okehampton area.

Steve Parker has been morris dancing for more than 30 years and since moving down to North Tawton from Rochester, in Kent, has been dancing with a team from Exeter.

However, Steve says travelling to their meetings is difficult, and he would prefer to find a team closer to home.

Steve?s son William has also been morris dancing for around four years.

Steve said this May Day would be one of the first in many years when he would not be on Wimbledon Common at 5.30am to join in the revelry.

Steve said there were a number of reasons he really enjoyed morris dancing.

?It is carrying on ancient traditions. It is a way of getting out and keeping fit and it is very strong on friendship and fellowship,? he said.

Anyone who knows of an existing club or who would be interested in finding out more about dancing can call Steve on 07956 922616.
