GENEROUS customers at Exbourne's post office and shop project greeted a long distance walker on Monday week — and sent him on his journey with a little extra for his chosen charity.

Graham Clark is walking from Land's End to John O' Groats to raise money for Global Care, a charity which sponsors homeless children in Uganda.

Paul Ankcorn, fundraiser for the Exbourne and Jacobstowe Initiative to provide a new shop and post office for the village, said: 'He was just passing through and thought he'd pop in for a cup of tea.

'We passed a plate around and the good people of Exbourne gave him £18.02!'

The Exbourne and Jacobstowe Initiative runs the post office, cafe and mini-shop in the village hall on Monday and Friday mornings — so Mr Clark chose the right day to walk through the village.

Mr Ankcorn said Mr Clark estimates his marathon walk should take him about 70 days.
