A COUNCILLOR'S call for urgent action to open an access road to a new estate in Callington after more then two years of delay has been heard.
Cllr Andrew Long said a new officer from Cornwall Council had been put on the case and was now treating it as a priority. In an open letter to the council's highways chief, Cllr Long condemned yet another delay in getting the access road to Skitta Close from Launceston Road at Bowling Green, saying it had been going on for over two years.
'This has gone on long enough and the people who live in this estate need to know that this situation will not be allowed to continue,' he said.
Cllr Long said he had since had an assurance that the work would be done and he hoped it would be completed this spring.
'At the moment, there is a real danger of accidents as all these residents need to use the old Florence Hill exit on to Launceston Road or Florence Road and neither of these are now fit for purpose,' he said.
The original agreement for the road was part of what is known as a Section 278 agreement with the council which accompanied the original planning application.
This agreement originally stated that no houses should be occupied before the road is complete, but this was changed, against the advice of Cllr Long and the town council, in 2011.
