A food festival for all the family

A vibrant food festival showcasing the region’s rich flavours & culinary traditions is coming to Tavistock Meadows on Sunday 25th June 10:00 – 16:00
Join the fun at a fabulous family day out brimming with flavour at a vibrant food festival in Tavistock. Created as a celebrating of the local growers, producers, and artisan makers of food, drink, and kitchenalia, this one-day festival pays homage to the long tradition of cultivating delicious produce in the Westcountry.
Made possible by funding from Community Recovery Grant and supported by Visit Tamar Valley, The Bedford Hotel, Tamar Grow Local and Learn Devon, visitors can indulge in a day of shopping, celebrating, tasting, and treating themselves to an array of delicious goodies. There’ll be chef's demos, masterclasses on topics ranging from window-sill gardening to crafting the perfect cocktail, and fun activities for children too.
No festival is complete without a line-up of live music in the bandstand enjoyed with a drink or two from the bar.
As Jo Macaskie from Miss Ivy Events who have organised the event says ‘We’re very much looking forward to welcoming visitors to experience a vibrant food festival that tantalizes taste buds and celebrates the best of local flavours in a beautiful setting beside the River Tavy’ People interested in finding out more or booking a place at one of our masterclasses should visit us here

Cream or jam first? – Lifton Hall may have the answer

It’s an age-old debate between the Cornish and Devonians: when eating scones, is it the jam or the clotted cream first?
Although the scones are only a part of Lifton Hall’s Afternoon Tea experience, they are so close to the border between the two counties that they think either option is just fine.
Lifton Hall’s Afternoon Tea has had some great reviews – and not just for their amazing scones.
They serve two types of Afternoon Tea. The “Classic” tea has a mix of sandwiches, savoury nibbles, mini-desserts and cakes – including the aforementioned scone. Their “Farmer’s” tea is for those who prefer fewer sweet things. You get sandwiches, a soup, Cornish pasty, a scone with jam and cream and a slice of fruit cake.
Lifton Hall’s Afternoon Teas are available Wednesday to Saturday from 2.30pm. Your visit has to be booked in advance, but if you call in the morning, they can usually fit you in for that day. It’s £17.50 per person, £23 if you include a glass of prosecco.
And if you need any more temptation, during June and July they are offering a free glass of Buck’s Fizz with each tea. For more information click here

Afternoon tea at The Arundell

Blue skies and endless sunshine, the gentle humming of the bees and the crunch of gravel.
Unlike the weather we are enjoying, there is nothing more English than enjoying a wonderful Afternoon Tea in the Arundell’s pretty country garden. It tastes even better with a crisp glass of delicious sparkling wine and with English Wine Week starting on 17th June, we are offering a 10% discount on our Langham Sparkling. As the day turns to evening, its Cocktail hour and on our new Summer Cocktail Menu, the Arundell Dawa is fast becoming the season’s favourite. A cool combination of lime, sugar, vodka and soda water, it is deceptively refreshing!
The Arundell Delicatessen is now offering seasonal local fruit and vegetables with asparagus, strawberries from local allotments and delicious baby courgettes. For days out on the beach or Dartmoor, why not make the day extra special and order one of our Deli picnics, which come pre-packed in an Arundell cool bag backpack. Easy to carry and just the right size.

Dartmoor Brewery launches new “zero” beer

In response to increasing market demand for high quality low-alcohol beers, leading South West producer of traditional ales, Dartmoor Brewery, has added to its portfolio with the launch of Dartmoor Zero.
With a strength of less than 0.5% alcohol by volume, the new beer is aimed at discerning drinkers who at times would prefer the traditional pleasures of a full-flavoured beer combined with a minimal level of alcohol.
Dartmoor Zero joins the existing range of award-winning Dartmoor beers, including the famous and original Jail Ale, the full-flavoured Legend and the light and golden Dartmoor IPA.
Dartmoor Brewery Managing Director Ian Cobham commented: “We are tremendously privileged to have a loyal following for our traditional Dartmoor ales, and we feel the time has come to offer beer-lovers the additional option of a beer packed with flavour but at a close-to zero level of alcohol. Ale aficionados will also be reassured that our new Dartmoor Zero has all the quality and sheer drinking pleasure that they have come to expect from the Dartmoor Brewery range.”
Dartmoor Zero is being rolled out to pubs across Dartmoor and beyond, and is also available to buy online here
