P&WDCFL Senior Challenge Cup quarter-final Buckland MC 1 Plymouth City 0 DESPITE the best of attempts of the weather to postpone this match, the teams put in an evenly matched contest. Buckland started the more fluently, and put together a series of passing movements but were repeatedly let down by their inability to play final balls with any penetration. In fact it was the 'Citizens' led by the guile of sharpshooters Shaun Gragg and Colin Lowe who created the best chances of the first half. Their overall play appeared slightly lethargic but four times in a 'purple' ten minutes they forced Buckland keeper Remi Holland into action. Each time the keeper thwarted the Plymothians' best efforts. If the first half was just edged by City in terms of chances created, then the second honours were taken by Buckland. The midfield, including debutant John Butler began to assume control and Andy Kinsman found spaces behind the left side of the City defence. He created opportunities for Jimmy Coole and Russell Ellis whose attempts were rebuffed by fine keeping from City's Jimmy Wilkinson. Eventually the City defence was breached, Russell Ellis smashed a shot against their crossbar and Andy Kinsman reacted quickly to turn the rebound home. City's response was almost immediate, however Cragg deliberated when he faced the Buckland keeper one on one and the Bucks defence were able to clear the danger. This proved to be the 'Citizens' best opportunity, further Buckland attacks were foiled by either Wilkinson in resplendent form, the City woodwork or by inaccurate finishing. Fallon, back as substitute in the Bucks team after injury, was guilty of missing the easiest chance. Nevertheless Buckland finished this game as the stronger and winning team and will now look forward to a semi-final appearance. A word of praise to referee Sandy Compton who played his part in the sportingly contested match.
