Brixham Colts 14
Okehampton Colts 13
WITH Brixham third and Okehampton second in the league this was always going to be a hard game. With wind and slope advantage Brixham started at a furious pace and Okehampton could not get their hands on the ball for the first ten minutes.
But even with all that pressure Brixham only managed to score from a penalty. The Okehampton front row of Scott Simpson, Brad Hudson and Tom Richards started to get the better of their opposite numbers, even taking a couple of strikes against the head. This turned the game and Brixham conceded a penalty on Okehampton's ten-metre line. Fly-half Kevin Dennis went to kick to touch, sliced his kick up the middle of the pitch – Brixham watched the ball bounce – Dennis chased up, caught the bounce, handed off the first tackler and side-stepped the full-back to score under the post and added the conversion.
The Okehampton pack were dominating with Tom McGratton and Will Hawkins winning excellent ball from the lineouts and the pack driving Brixham backwards. Brixham conceded penalties, Dennis converting two.
Brixham hit back just before half-time with a try and a penalty to make a score of 11-13 to Okehampton.
The second half saw Okehampton dominating territorially but too many wrong options and mistakes allowed Brixham off the hook. With the clock running down Brixham's first excursion to Okehampton's 22 dealt a cruel blow to the side by managing to slot over a clever drop-kick to take the lead.
The final few minutes saw Okehampton attacking hard but unable to add another score. Okehampton stay second in the league on points difference.
