THE finals day of the Junior LTA Sanctioned Grade 4 Tennis tournament took place at Tavistock Tennis Club on Sunday, with spectators entertained to some brilliant tennis.

The four day tournament was efficiently organized by Mary Bayliss, the LTA Referee and a host of club members who prepared the courts, served food and generally looked after players and supporters. 

Winners in each section of boys' singles were 18 and Under  Rhys Dunsford. Consolation Seb Dartnell. 16 and Under Seb Dartnell. Consolation Saul Byrne. 14 and Under William Holman. Consolation Callum Wade.

12 and Under Oshi Leverton. Consolation Jake Freeman. 10 and Under Green Ball. 1, Caitlin Barton-Sargeant, 2, Frederick James.

Boys' doubles 18 and Under Rhys Dunford and Patrick Wilson v Philip Snell and Ashley Taylor. Won 6-2, 6-4. 14 and Under. 1, Callum Wade and Joel Walker, 2, George Carter and Rory Forbes.

Girls' singles. 18 and Under Caitlin Gordon v Emma Duxbury won 7-5, 6-4. 16 and Under Gabriella Hattersley. Consolation Caitlin Gordon. 14 and Under Gabriella Hattersley. Consolation Lauren Barker. 12 and Under 1, Emily Staddon, 2, Bethany Matthews. Girls' doubles 18 and Under Hettie Burrows and Gabriella Hattersley v Emma Duxbury and Sophie Murray. Won 6-4, 6-2. 14 and Under Maddison Ede and Steffi Marks v Lauren Barker and Emily Staddon. Won 7-6, 6-4, 7-2.

The president of Tavistock Tennis Club, Norma Woodcock, presented the medals and prizes throughout the day.

She thanked  the participants for taking part so sportingly, whether they lost or won and the parents for the support they give to the children, many of whom travelled long distances to come to Tavistock.

Barbara Watson gave a vote of thanks to Norma Woodcock and Mary Bayliss and made a presentation to them for their hard work and commitment to tennis.
