Devon County Council is to carry out a series of improvements on the B3362 in West Devon, including work on the historic Greystone Bridge. Night time resurfacing of the road between Edgcombe and Eastacott at Milton Abbot begins on Monday, October 22. The road will be closed from 7pm to 7am until Friday, October 26. Work on Greystone Bridge will start on Monday, November 19 and this will require a lorry ban each night until Saturday, November 24 and total closure of the road the following morning, Sunday, November 25. Greystone Bridge is an important asset to Devon both in terms of its position in the road network and its historical importance. The Grade 1 listed structure carries significant levels of traffic between Tavistock and Launceston. For some time, long vehicles have been damaging the bridge parapet with resulting disruption to traffic. The frequency of such incidents has increased in recent years. After consultation with English Heritage, it has been agreed that the corner of the approach to the bridge at the Cornwall end will be widened. In addition to this work, the county council is to replace the existing signals which are several years old and have become unreliable.
