IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league this week Bridestowe played Okehampton College A. In the first game Richard Mounce put the college in the lead when he defeated Phill Down in straight sets. Bridestowe then stepped up a gear taking the next eight singles to lead 8-1. In the seventh game Richard Mounce took Francis Griffiths all the way just losing out in a thrilling five legs 13-11, 5-11, 11-1, 8-11, 12-10. The college won their first doubles of the season beating Phil Down and Francis Griffiths in another five leg decider 9-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 10-12,- Bridestowe wining the match 8-2. In division two, Moretonhampstead A finished their league season with a 6-4 win over Okehampton College B. Ken Underhill finished undefeated but Naomi Wilkins and Stewart McCormack pushed him all the way losing out in four legs an hard fought games. The college were 4-2 up at one point but Moretonhampstead won the next four for the win. Tavistock A were at home to Okehampton B and raced away with a convincing 6-1 win. Peter Richardson for Okehampton B saved the whitewash by beating Ian Smith 23-25, 17-21. In Group four North Wyke played Okehampton A with the visitors going into a three-one lead; Bruce Freeman saved the whitewash by beating Tony Howick in three legs. Okehampton A won the match 4-1 but there was not enough time to complete the last two singles.
