PRIMARY schools in Tavistock are to be some of the first in the country to view a new play aimed at raising awareness about the school run and road safety.

Car Story, performed by the Box Clever Theatre Company, is touring selected primary schools in Devon next week and pupils at Tavistock Primary and St Peter's Primary schools have been chosen to see it.

The show is the flagship for the county council's Walk to School Week held between October 1 and 5.

Alison McGregor, the council's school travel plan co-ordinator, said: 'This is an exciting way to highlight our work in the county on issues related to school travel and the development of school travel plans.'

This is the third time Box Clever has been invited to perform to school pupils. Car Story asks audiences to accept responsibility for the world and recognise the benefits of caring for the environment.

Lesley Smith, the county council's travelwise officer, said: 'The play advocates using alternative modes of transport as a passport to healthier living.
