A PROPOSAL by Pillaton Parish Council to be affiliated with Callington rather than Saltash in Cornwall Council's community network areas has been wholeheartedly supported by Callington Town Council.
Pillaton has made this request because it believes it shares the same interests as Callington being a rural community only three miles away.
The parish council which is currently affiliated with Saltash said it considered that Saltash, being almost a satellite of Plymouth, did not share the rural and agricultural interests common to Callington and Pillaton.
Community network manager for Callington and Launceston, Mark O' Brien, who splits his time between the one stop shops in both towns, told town councillors recently that there was going to be a review of the community network model and boundaries together with how funding was allocated would form part of this.
The aim of the Callington Area community network is for local service providers and the four local Cornwall council members to work in partnership.
The parishes currently contained within this sector as well as Callington are Calstock, Linkinhorne, South Hill, St Dominick, St Ive and St Mellion.
Cllr Andrew Long covers the Callington ward, Cllr Russell Bartlett the Gunnislake ward, Cllr Jim Flashman the Kelly Bray ward and Cllr John Turner the St Ive ward.
