DURING the course of Oxfam's annual 'Bookfest' fortnight, the Oxfam Bookshop in Tavistock is aiming to raise enough in donations to provide a library for a needy village through Oxfam Unwrapped.

Bookfest, running from Monday July 2 to Saturday July 16, is a time at Oxfam to focus on books, both donations and sales.?Staff and volunteers hope to raise £429 to buy a village a library. This year the focus of Bookfest is local interest and history.

The shop will be working with local organisations, including Tavistock Local History Society, Tavistock Museum, the Devonshire Association, Devon Wildlife Trust, local businesses, individuals and schools to bring books and other information to customers of the shop and the wider public.

To help raise money, a local knowledge quiz will be held. The questions are being set by Gerry Woodcock, Tom Greeves, Simon Dell, Tony John, Paul Rendell and the Devon Wildlife Trust. The quiz is being sponsored by Mansbridge and Balment Estate Agents, which has covered all the costs of producing it.

The quiz sheets will be available from the shop for a minimum donation of £1 from Monday July 2 and throughout Bookfest fortnight. Completed sheets need to be returned by July 18.

During Bookfest there will also be storytelling for youngsters in the shop on Saturday from 10.30am to noon, Simon Dell will be in the shop on Saturday July 9 from 1pm for book signing and answering questions.

On Wednesday July 6 from 11am and again on Monday July 11 from 2.30pm there will be tours of St Eustachius' Church, and to close the event on Saturday July 16 there will be a raffle in the shop at 1pm, with many prizes donated by local shops, business and individuals.
