EVER dug up an old piece of pottery in the garden and wondered if it could be part of a Roman container? Well, now is the chance to find out, when experts will be on hand to help identify the finds at the Museum of Dartmoor Life in Okehampton next Wednesday (May 28). During the 'Bones and Stones' free family finds day there will be plenty of activities for budding young archaeologists, with the chance to take a close look at the collection of artefacts, investigate the contents of the sorting box, make plaster casts of bones, examine fossils and make up collection boxes for personal finds. As well as information about the archaeology of Dartmoor and the Portable Antiquities Scheme, there will be the chance to ask about the environmental landscape, examine maps of the area, find out details of walks on the moors and visit the Dartmoor Rocks! exhibition in the museum. The family finds day starts at 11am and runs until 3pm. Everyone is welcome to join in the activities throughout the day. For more information contact the museum on 01837 52295.
