ULTRA-MARATHON runner Bob Brown is preparing to run the penultimate quarter of his transcontinental marathon. The 36-year-old from Stoke Climsland has already run the length of Australia and North America, tallying 6,000 miles, but his run across Europe will be the longest at 4,300 miles ? he is hoping to complete it in 80 days. The schoolteacher starts his latest adventure on August 2, but already has plans to run across Asia next year and realise his dream of becoming the original globetrotter ? the first person to cover the Earth?s circumference on foot. This year?s race is different from his others with no other competitors to spur him on. Despite the lack of fellow runners, Bob will be supported by his wife, Amy, and his brother-in-law on a bike and truck, with his parents joining them on a family holiday ? ?A less than conventional family holiday but very much appreciated!?, was Bob?s response to his biggest fans? idea. Running an average of two marathons a day, Bob has customised his own unique kit, wearing open-toe trainers to fit his swollen feet and eating Cornish pasties. Ginsters, his sponsor, will supply him with a huge stash of the local delicacy, with Bob saying that, ?even in the remotest parts of Russia, I?ll be able to get a taste of Cornwall?. Bob is expected to burn around 10,000 calories a day, but the pasties will provide him with much needed nutrients and are the perfect shape to eat, ?on-the-go?. The European run is the longest part of his round the world marathon, running through city, field, desert and tundra, encountering nine different nations and wearing out eight pairs of trainers, but for Bob this is his time, for ?chilling out?.
