Ordulph v Lewdown

THE Ordulph were taught a couple of harsh league lessons by Lewdown last Saturday.

Number one was how to bowl consistent line and length, number two was that catches win matches, and number three was win the toss when about to play on a drying wicket.

Having won the toss the Lewdown skipper had no hesitation in putting the Ordulph in to bat. A combination of variable bounce and consistent bowling by the young Lewdown attack made runs hard to come by.

Only Statton (13), Coad (18) and a gritty 18 from new boy Tynan were worthy of a mention from the Ordulph batting.

Good bowling performances from Vernon (2-12) and Cooley (2-7) in particular restricted the Ordulph to 92 all out.

A promising start from the Ordulph on a now dry wicket saw a sharp looking Rice take the wicket of opener Weeks with Rayburn accounting for the other opener Hayden.

This proved to be a ?false dawn? as Lewdown fairly raced away with a blistering assault on the bowling by E Squire (31) and M Squire (49) in quick time.

Only the consolation of E Squire being bowled by Folley interrupted the race to the finishing post by Lewdown who needed only 14 overs to complete the job.

The combination of aggressive Lewdown batting, inconsistent Ordulph bowling and at least five dropped catches made this encounter a very one-sided affair.
