A TAVISTOCK postman and his wife are this week celebrating after one of their dogs scooped honours at the internationally-famous Crufts Dog Show. Jonathan and Judith Williams, of Callington, took two of their wire-haired standard dachshunds to Crufts last weekend. Bonavoir Kelly?s Eye, commonly known as Raz, came third in his class but it was his Dad, Leibling Pick n? Mix, or Bingo to his friends, who proved the star on the day. Bingo, who is already an English and Irish champion, was named top sire in the country for his breed and scooped the first prize in the veteran class too. His good pedigree also sparked an impressive win for his daughter, who won best of breed. Jonathan said: ?It was wonderful, we were really thrilled. We had such a good time up there ? it?s the fifth year on the trot that one of his children has got best of breed at Crufts, which must be something of a record.? Jonathan said Bingo, who is eight years old, was a real show-off in the ring. ?He loves it, he goes absolutely crazy when we go to Crufts. He just struts around and you don?t have to do anything with him really, he?s a real character,? said Jonathan. The couple have five dachshunds in total and hope to start breeding from them this summer. Standard dachshunds were originally used as a woodsman?s dog, hunting out rats and vermin ? even animals as large as wild boar. ?One of our puppies lives in Scotland now and she is used to track down deer. The standards are quite a substantial dog ? they are quite versatile,? said Jonathan.
