TAVISTOCK Young Farmers Club will be celebrating a very special event this year, with the staging of their pantomime and a celebration dinner and dance.

The club was founded in 1942 and celebrates its 70th birthday in 2012.

From just eleven members, the club now has more than 50, ranging in age from ten to 26.

The club organises many social events throughout the year, partly to raise funds for its running costs and partly for charity.

Its aim is to give young people in the countryside a way of socialising with other young people, and to offer the opportunity to learn new skills, from stock judging and public speaking to first aid.

Members of the Tavistock club are currently in rehearsals for their pantomime 'Nigel and the Musketeer-ettes', which will be performed in a competition against the six other YFC groups in the South Dartmoor area.

A 70th birthday celebration dinner dance will be held on February 17 at St Mellion which will include a three course meal, a guest speaker, a band, disco and draw.

Tickets are £30 and can be reserved by calling Zoe Deeble on 07837 827321 as soon as possible.

Anyone who would like to see the full dress rehearsal of Tavistock YFC's panto is welcome to come along to Tavistock College on Friday, February 3 at 9.15pm.

Anyone who would like more information about Tavistock YFC or who would like to join the club shuold call chairman Nick Cole on 07920 015156.
