VILLAGERS in Exbourne are getting together to promote the best in local produce with a delicious big breakfast using the finest local ingredients this Saturday (May 20). The first community market of the season is being held by the Exbourne Local Produce Initiative, and there will be a wide range of goods on offer. Visitors can also enjoy a traditional breakfast made using local bacon, eggs, sausages, bread and butter. The market runs between 9am to 12.30pm in Exbourne Village Hall. A main attraction will be the freshly baked goods from Stevie B?s, a local bakery using traditional baking methods. Their bread has already proved a great hit with visitors to the Exbourne Community Shop on Friday mornings. The grand raffle will be drawn at 12.30pm, with prizes including a giant local produce hamper, a meal for two at the Dartmoor Inn and a case of fine wine. The big breakfast will raise funds for Exbourne and Jacobstowe Community Association?s big project ? to build an underground shop, cafe and post office outlet using energy-conserving technology and specialising in selling locally sourced produce. ?There are exciting things happening in Exbourne at the moment concerning local food, despite the fact that it?s quite a small community,? said local produce co-ordinator Claire Hariades. ?We intend to show how even a small community can be as self-supporting as possible when it comes to local production and consumption.?
