SHOPPERS at Tavistock's Oxfam shop were greeted with international smiles recently as it played host to two students from France.

Laura Cloarec and Charlene Ledroit, business studies students from Brittany, volunteered to work at the shop in West Street to improve their English and learn more about the charity.

Laura and Charlene, both 19, spent time serving customers, pricing goods, cleaning and arranging displays.

Shop manager Jackie Theobald said: 'They've had a good taste of everything while they've been here. This is their first time in England, and their English has improved a bit — they really like Tavistock. We've had French students here before and they've always been very good.

Jackie said there will also be volunteers from Sri Lanka and Germany visiting the shop during this year.

'We welcome people from all over the world to volunteer with us and of course we welcome people from Tavistock as well.'

Anyone who would like to volunteer with Oxfam can contact Jackie at the shop on 01822 615534.
