COLD, wet and windy conditions have dominated March's competitions at Tavistock Golf Club.  The qualifying rounds of the Doris Willes Little Trophy and The Desert Springs Golf Four Women's Salver were played in more benign conditions.  In the Doris Willies Little Trophy Bev Ruth and Elaine Cooper had a convincing win of 6 and 4 over Nikkie Gawman and Kerry Baker and will go on to play Thurleston at Wrangaton Golf Club.  Dawn Phillott and Wendy Wroe beat Jan Walls and Peggy Burge on countback with 31 points.  They will represent Tavistock in the regional final at Okehampton in August.  Despite the cold winds the annual match between the ladies' competition and handicap secretaries was a close and hard fought game — the competition secretary winning by one game.  Alan Gawman, Mark Ingram, John Hirst, George Gawman and Graham Ruth had a resounding victory in the 'Mail on Sunday' qualifier beating Teign Valley four and a half to half.  They will now play Holsworthy in the next round on Saturday.  This year's George Kitley Salver was played in strong, cold northerly winds with average scores of 26pts.  The winner was Kenny McKenzie who came in with with a remarkable score of 38pts.  He will now partner the club  professional, Dominic Rehaag, in the National PGA Pro-Am qualifier at Sourton.  The final will be held in Portugal later in the year.  In the midweek Stableford the winner was Barry Tillyer with 31pts; Doug Littlejohn won on countback from Tim Hawkins with 30.  Once again appalling weather conditions prevailed for the monthly medal.  The well deserved winner, with a net 73, was Paul Reid with Gary Davies, Derek Bettany and Glyn Cunnick all on countback with a net 74.  The 4BBB, postponed from February was, once again, rained off and will not be re-scheduled.  The sun at last shone for the Monthly Stableford and in division one the winner was Shaun Dixon with 39pts while Dave Burge won on countback from Mike Beveridge with 38. In division two Marc Ninnis was first on 40pts; second, Les Porter on 35; third was Don Pratley, 34.
