SPEEDWELLS netball team from Okehampton recently took part in the annual netball festival at Pontins, Brean Sands.
More than 100 ladies' teams took part from all over the country plus 18 mixed teams in a separate tournament. Speedwells had an excellent first day, winning their first three matches convincingly. They went on to win four and lose five.
At the end of Saturday's play they were equal fifth in their section.
Due to a poorer goal difference Speedwells were put into the plate competition — lower half of the draw — while the top five of the section went through to the cup.
In the next round the Okehampton team were due to play Jaffas, but the team did not turn up which meant Speedwells were straight through to the quarter-finals.
The quarter-finals match was Speedwells' best by far — they had a superb 7-6 win over Barrett Belles.
Speedwells could not maintain their form in the semi-finals and went out by three goals to seven after a fine performance.
This is the best result Speedwells have achieved after playing in the tournament for the past five years.
