A WOMAN from Bere Alston is lacing up her trainers in preparation for the London Marathon in a bid to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Kelly Shaw is currently preparing for the 26.2 run around London on April 22 — the biggest challenge of her life.

‘I will be taking on the massive challenge of running the London marathon for Teenage Cancer Trust,’ said Kelly.

‘Last year I attempted to get a place for this year’s marathon. Sadly I didn’t get through on public ballot. But every cloud has a silver lining, because I had an email to say I have been given a place with the charity of the year.

‘I’m now a proud part of team legend and I am absolutely looking forward to pounding the streets of London with thousands of other people four days before my 35th birthday.

‘By the time I get to the start I will have only had nine weeks to prepare for this — I‘m by no means a runner at all but I am putting in the hours needed to be able to do this.’

Kelly has so far raised £580 of her £2,000 target.
