BELSTONE finished their tenth season in style last Sunday with their sixth successive victory, this time easing home by six wickets at Harberton's new ground near Totnes.

Belstone used nine bowlers in the Harberton innings, the resulting 27 wides helping extras to the top score of 32.

Emm (31) and Pyke (26) got well established with a good second wicket stand before Greg Cornish, the most successful bowler with 3 for 19, clean bowled them both. Further useful contributions down the order from Scott, Larder and Hawton took Harberton to 161 off their 40 overs.

Belstone opener Eddie Jones began his innings needing 22 to complete his — and the club's — first ever 1,000 runs for the season and he reached this milestone with a typically powerful boundary through the off-side.

His partnership with Wayne Pearce put on 79 for the second wicket in 13 overs before Jones was caught for 45. Pearce passed his seventh half-century of the season in partnerships with Phil Woods (22) and skipper Richard Drake (20), eventually finishing undefeated on 61, with two sixes and nine fours, as the visitors reached their target with over three overs to spare.

The season ends with 37 matches played, 24 victories, 9 defeats, 1 draw and 3 games rained off.

Belstone's annual dinner and awards evening is on Friday October 17 at Okehampton Rugby Club.
