WITH BAT?s Badminton Club policy of encouraging new and young players to the game this year they have entered two teams into the Plymouth and District Badminton League.
BAT?s ?B? team opened their season with a match against Plymouth University. Unfortunately the full team were unavailable and the University team provided an extra man so that all the games could be played.
In the one men?s rubber that could be played Ewen Rae and Jonathon Freeman lost in two close games 13-15, 12-15.
In the ladies? rubbers Jane and Nikki Moses had a crushing 15-4, 15-2 win. Jane and Kelly Drew then continued the winning form with a 15-10, 10-15, 15-10 victory. With two rubbers already won Nikki Moses and Kelly Drew set about winning the third rubber comfortably 8-15, 15- 2, 15-8. The ladies had opened their account in Division 4!
With only two mixed doubles rubbers to be played BAT?s would have to win both to take a winning position in the match. Jonathon Freeman and Nikki Moses started off the mixed doubles and took their rubber 15-12, 15-12. Ewen Rae and Jane then had the job of playing the deciding rubber. In a hard fought rubber Ewen and Jane overcame the University pair to win 15-13, 15-12.
At the end BAT?s ?B? team had won their first match of the season in Division 4 against Plymouth University 5 rubbers to 4 ? an excellent start to their first season in the league.
