BAT's Badminton Club has been awarded 'premier club' status within Badminton England alongside the 'Sport England Clubmark' standard.
Jenny Phipps, in her role as the Badminton England regional officer for Devon, said: 'Congratulations to BAT's BC who have successfully been re-accredited as a premier club. BAT's first achieved the status in 2006 and this year had to complete the process again to show the club was still a safe, equitable club who have good plans for development. Premier club also helps clubs when they apply for external funding as it shows they are a well organised club."
BAT's Badminton Club are leading the way for badminton in West Devon and are looking to encourage more participation through social play, club play and coaching. Already, apart from the clubs' own sessions, players from the club assist with the after-school club at Tavistock College and coach at the 'pay and play' session at Tavistock Community Sports Hall on a Thursday.
In the new year a level two certificate in coaching badminton is being organised to take place at Tavistock Community Sports Centre; further details of the course can be obtained from either Hannah Colston, West Devon Sports development officer, Jenny Phipps or Alan Berry, secretary, BAT's Badminton Club.
