THE Winsford Fete at Halwill Junction was opened by Baroness Emma Nicholson of Winterbourne, former MP for West Devon and Torridge. She praised the achievements of the Winsford volunteers on receiving the Queen?s Award for Volunteering and likened their spirit and generosity to the ideals that encompass the British way of life. There was a bouncy castle to keep the children happy and a stress-busting crockery smash, as well as the usual stalls and cakes. There were more than 40 prizes in the grand prize draw, the main one being a wooden caterpillar made and donated by one of the trustees. All the prizes had been donated, many of them from local business and tourist attractions giving complimentary tickets. During the afternoon the S-L-S Allstars from Buckland Filleigh put on two majorette displays for the entertainment of the guests. The Winsford Trust expressed thanks to everyone for supporting the fete on the day and the volunteers for donating their time. With everyone?s help, the trust has been able to bank nearly £1,600, the proceeds of the day being boosted by the generosity of a local businessman.
