A YOUNG dad who was showing off to two women passengers crashed his car after speeding at 90mph, Exeter Magistrates Court last week heard.

Peter Gibson lost control of his Honda car on the B3125 at Okehampton one Friday afternoon in March.

The court was told the 21-year-old was seen doing 90mph when he crashed on a bend, leaving the two passengers with injuries to their hip and back.

Gibson, of The Fox and Hounds Hotel at Bridestowe, admitted careless driving and not having insurance or a proper car licence.

Prosecutor Lyndsey Baker said he was showing off, going too fast, overtaking at speed and driving without insurance or a licence.

The wooden shipping pallet maker told the court that he entirely accepted what his passengers had said, that he was driving at speeds of up to 90mph.

Gibson, who has a five-month-old baby, told the magistrates that he cycles 15 miles a day to work, so a short term ban would not affect him too much.

Magistrates banned him for three months and fined him a total of £557, for what they described as 'a silly act'.
