AT the annual dinner and awards night at Chagford Cricket Club it was father and son Steve and Gary Sizmur who picked up two of the major awards.
Gary headed the first team batting averages with 299 runs at an average of 37.38 as well as producing some superb fielding in his first season at the club.
He also scored a century in an appearance for ther second team.
Father Steve, a well respected and popular West Devon Cricketer, played a major role in the second team league sucess taking 30 wickets in the season in 75 overs at an average of only 9.33 with the astonishing figures of taking a wicket every 15 balls.
The first team bowling award went to all rounder Del Lammonby, who only missed one game during the season taking 33 wickets at 15.76 as well as contributing useful runs.
The bowling was particularly strong with Neal Rowlands, Andy Astley and Jerry Christophers all among the leading wicket takers in the League.
Chairman Bryce in an address to a packed club house paid tribute to the club with the first team in the initial season in B Division against sides with a much bigger population in finishing fifth, and the second team winning their division by a large margin.
First team captains Jerry Christophers and Colin Mortimore had achieved two promotions in four years, and new players had been attracted to the club.
The second team batting award went to 15-0year-old Billy Searle, who scored his first century in adult cricket, and despite a mid season injury headed the batting averages with 306 runs for an average of 51 — it was a pity his injury prevented him bowling for most of the season.
Other awards went to second team captain Simon Snell and Chris Filor.
President Mike Wreford stressed the excellent team spirit within the Chagford Cricket Club, and the happy family involvement, and with three fathers and sons playing regularly, not only Steve and Gary Sizmur, but Dave and Paul Penberthy and Arnie and Billy Searle it augers well for the future.
There is a full fixture list for next year with the first and second team in the Devon League and matches in the Newton Abbot and District 20/20 Competition and friendly matches against touring sides.
New players of all abilties are welcomed and should contact Mike Wreford on 01837 52932 or Bryce Rundle on 01647 433581.
