A YELVERTON firefighter was presented with a long service and a good conduct award last week. Andrew Pawlowski was awarded a medal to commemorate his 20 years of service at Yelverton Fire Station. Dale Durante, assistant division officer, said: 'Andy is a well respected, valued member of Yelverton fire station, he has a calm dependable manner and others often look to him for advice. 'He has a reputation for being very practical and is able to turn his hand to any task. 'Over the years Andy has attended many operational incidents, ranging from road traffic collisions, farm and rural fires and has attended some of the larger fires that have occurred in Plymouth.' Andrew runs his own building business, and is an accomplished electrician, builder and welder — skills which are valued in the service. Eight other Devon firefighters were presented with a medal and certificate for their 20 years of service by Deputy Lt Robin Barlow at Oldway Mansions in Paignton.
