NORTH Tawton firefighters are holding an open day at their Barton Street Fire Station in aid of the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund on Saturday July 14, from 2pm to 5pm. Attractions will include vintage and aerial appliances, a chip pan demonstration, various stalls, including a tombola, and refreshments. There will also be face painting, a bouncy castle, and a grand draw. Entry to the event is free. The FSNBF provides assistance to serving and retired fire service personnel and their widows and young dependents, through the provision of sheltered accommodation, recuperative facilities, rehabilitation and therapy, in addition to financial support for those. It has also recently introduced new initiatives such as child and family therapy programmes, which aim to enhance the quality of life for fire service personnel families who have a child with an illness or disability. The charity has three centres from which it provides support, including one at Harcombe House in Chudleigh.
