I AM writing in response to the comments made in Benchmark on January 30.

Mel Stride MP refers to the recent flooding and to a particular view concerning possible causes.

At the joint church service held during the week of prayer for Christian unity we were encouraged to deal with life in the following way.

'If you do not know what to do, ask yourself — what would Jesus do?'

All right then. What would Jesus say about flooding?

We all know about Noah and the flood. The story tells how the flood was the consequence of corruption and violence.

Jesus goes on to say that in the future: 'As it was in the days of Noah so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

'For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark.'

He warned us to be ready.

Mel Stride also warns us of the consequences of voting in a certain way at the next general election.

Wait a minute! Before then, we all have a chance to make our voices heard in the EU election on May 22.

If Jesus had been able to vote, would he have done so?
