AN exhibition of oil paintings by Gunnislake-based artist Colin Pethick goes on show at the Artframe Gallery in Tavistock next week. Colin, who was initially self taught but has since graduated from Plymouth University with a BA (Hons) in fine art and painting, became a professional artist in 1996 when he retired from the construction industry following diagnosis of a long-term disability. Much of his work concentrates on the restrictions and entrapment which can exist in society ? a partial response to his own, painful condition. Last year his works were exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Mall Gallery in London, which he says was ?a big break? in his professional life as an artist. About a dozen of Colin?s works will be on display at Artframe, including three or four large views of Tavistock, allegorical still life paintings and some limited edition prints.
