Okehampton Argyle 3

Exeter Civil Service 0

AN eagerly awaited start to the season after a string of encouraging friendlies saw Okehampton have a repeat of the opening fixture from last season.

After a lively opening 15-minute spell where both teams cancelled each other out, Okehampton started to get the ball clean and play to their strengths by shortening their game.

This paid dividends with a good move between Paul Yip and Adam Mortimer, who made a good run into the box squaring the ball to Robbie Miller to squeeze the ball in at the near post.

The second goal came after both teams had missed chances. Yip played the hard working Adam Mortimer in for him to make it 2-0.

Okehampton seemed to lose their pattern and allowed Civil to dominate the remainder of the first half.

The second half started evenly with both teams again making good chances.

Mark Burdus, through determination, forced the ball over the line to make it 3-0, effectively securing the points.

Dan Johnston and Steve Williams made encouraging starts and Kevin Gill and Mike Vernon defended solidly, while Graham Soby made an exceptionally fine first appearance.

A satisfying first game to what should hopefully be a good season.
