A WOMAN from Okehampton is appealing for information after a vicious attack on her horse. Lizzy Peplow is the proud owner of a ten-year-old former racehorse Royal Rationale, now known as Mouse. Having retired from the track in May 2013 after a successful career, the 15.3 hands high thoroughbred now spends his days in a paddock near Sticklepath. When Lizzy when to check up on Mouse at 9.10am on Wednesday, September 10 she found him in the middle of his paddock with a large slash wound in the top of his hind leg. He also had a deep slash on the inside of his leg and a very deep stab wound on the outside of his leg, which upon being x-rayed proved to be around four inches deep. Lizzy rushed Mouse to an equine hospital, where he was cared for until returning home on September 17. Following his injuries, he had the slashes on his leg stapled, and a cast on his hoof to allow the injuries to heal. It is believed that Mouse was attacked by a person as opposed to the injury being an accident. It is not yet known whether Mouse will ever be able to be ridden again. If you have any information, contact the police on the non-emergency phoneline 101.
