A CHEST of drawers valued at £15,000 was just one of the items stolen from a house in Lewdown on July 27. The tall boy, made of Burrelm, fitted with brass plates and handles, stood 8ft tall and 3ft 4ins wide, and was just one of seventy items to be taken during the burglary. High quality valued antiques were stolen from the home, which was being repaired after it suffered from flood damage. The owners at the time were living in their cottage on the same grounds. The items taken were mainly silver. They included a watch, cigarette box, and an embossed silver Chinese tea service. Other possessions stolen included a Georgian solid salt cellar, a walnut tea caddie box, a silver and ivory knife from India or Afghanistan, and two gold watches. The burglars also stole two Cow Creamers ? cows made of porcelain. One was brown and white the other black and white. These were the only two items stolen from a display cabinet within the house. DC Andy Bolter said: ?The burglars were very selective. They knew exactly what they were after.? Police are appealing for witnesses who saw anything suspicious in the village during the time of the incident. The officer on the case, DC Bolter, also appeals to anyone who has been offered quality antiques to get in touch and for auction houses to keep an eye open for any of these items.
