IT was guest day at Yelverton Golf Club on Thursday, July 11. The ladies were able to invite a friend to play with them in a 'homespun' four-ball better ball competition.

Annette Sweeney and her guest Fran Hunn from Looe were the winners with 57 points, runners-up were Di Friend and her guest Pattie McPhie from Thurlestone with 55 points and third were Angela Howard and her guest Sheila Marquand from St Mellion.

Captain's prize competition was held on Saturday July 13. In the ladies' section, Barbara Berryman won with 35 points, Trudi Luke came second with 34 points and Pat Gove was third with 34 points. Laura Eastwood won the low handicap junior section with 38 points.

On July 18 , a bautiful sunny day, with the golf course in superb condition, Yelverton ladies' played the combined July stableford and Cancer Relief Spoon competition.

The silver division was won by Di Friend with 44 points, second, third and fourth were Belinda McSherry, Maggie Flanagan and Jean James all with 37 points. The bronze division was won by Di Reardon with 42 points, second was Pat Chambers with 35 points and third was Chris Longden with 33 points.

Di Friend won the Cancer Relief Spoon competition. Four players did a hole in two shots, Jean James, Gillie Jarvis, Chris Longden and Rosie Ring.

On July 8 the ladies of Yelverton played two matches at home. A Still Cup match against Thurleston which they won, and a Sheelagh Creasy Bowl match against The Warren which they won 4-3. On July 15 they played a Devon League match against Elfordleigh, also at home, which they won 6-0.

Laura Eastwood competed in the English Close Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Whittington Heath Golf Club between July 16 and 18. After the initial 36 holes she qualified to play in the final 36 holes, finishing 24th in the overall competition, and third in the Under 18 division.
