THE investiture of 14 scouts into the South Zeal Scout Group last week has increased the membership to 80.

At a special ceremony at the scout hut, district commissioner Alan Finch admitted that he could not recall such a number being invested into one group in his 40 years' experience in scouting.

The young people who took the oath were Ellie Binns, Amelia Davies, Harriet Davies, Jessica Day, Natasha Day, Matthew Dennis, Alice Glover, Lucinda Howard, Billie Sanderson, Catherine Souness, Jonathan Trussler, Eliza Unwin, Aaron Watson and Alex Wooldridge.

Joint scout leader Michael Boother conducted the investiture and was joined by his wife and joint leader Caroline, assistant leaders Ian Lee and Judith Beacom and assistant district commissioner George Davey.

Mr Finch told the new members scouting was like having a bank account — if you don't put anything into it, you won't get anything out.

Caroline Boother said membership of the group, which included beavers and cubs, escalated recently and she was delighted to welcome the new recruits.

As well as lots of fun activities, camps and trips, scouting trained young people to take responsibility for themselves and their activities.
